My Mom's Story - Why I participate
Before being diagnosed with Young Onset Alzheimer's disease at age 55, my mom was quite the artist! She loved to paint and sketch throughout her life. This block print she made of pine trees has long been our families favorite! Unfortunately, after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's she lost her artistic talents quickly as the disease impacted her vision almost immediately. For me, one of the hardest part of the illness was seeing her struggle as she realized her artistic talents were slipping away.
In honor of her memory I have been water coloring from sunrise to sunset for The Longest Day the past several years. In a small way hoping to carry on her memory by spending some time enjoying our shared artistic hobby!
